Pokopia Might Be the Cozy Game of the Decade | Switch 2 News

Posted on March 30, 2026March 30, 2026 by Carmen

The world is a wasteland, and it’s up to an adorable Ditto to revitalize nature so that Pokémon can thrive once more.

Leave it up to the Pokémon Company to come up with the best side quest games while continuing to disappoint fans with the primary titles. Pokopia is no exception, releasing to rave reviews from critics, streamers, and online communities alike. Exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, Pokopia is a life sim x city-builder with biiiigggg Animal Crossing New Horizons vibes. It’s been so beloved, that it might even become a system seller before Nintendo reels us dawdlers in with a new Legend of Zelda or Animal Crossing main title.

Pokopia has an entirely new premise, unlike anything seen in past console or mobile titles. Your customizable character is a ditto, not a trainer, though you take on a vaguely humanoid look by transformation. You wake up in a world filled with colorless towers of rock and long stretches of empty valleys. Professor Tangrowth greets you upon awakening and tells you that the land has been void of humans and Pokémon for some time.

Using your ever-changing ditto powers, you will gain the ability to water grass, plant flora, and start breathing life back into the area. As you do, friendly Pokémon like Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Bellsprout will ask to move in. You can increase your environment level to attract new Pokémon and grow your trainer level to access new areas. Exploration unlocks new areas for renovation but also leads you to decorative items for your budding communities. Place a chair or firepit to make the area shine.

Drifloon can even hoist your Ditto avatar to Dream Islands, where you can visit other players’ worlds, clone their decorative items for yourself, and even invite their Pokémon to join your island. Don’t worry: You aren’t stealing. Everything you “take” duplicates into both worlds. It’s not like ACNH where dream worlds can’t be interacted with and real islands can be messed with! Pokopia has built-in safeguards to keep your stuff safe.

Pokopia is huge, too. It unlocks in chunks as you level up, but there seems to be endless horizons of landscapes and caves. Plus, you’ll start running into familiar ruins. A Pokémon Center here, a museum there. If you pay close attention to the maps, you might even begin to recognize where you are.

Pokopia is a cozy game on Switch that is steeped in love and lore. Long-time fans of the franchise will appreciate spotting little Easter Eggs, and new players can jump in without feeling like they are missing 30+ years of franchise history. The Poke-world has been wiped clean. You can investigate in perfect, bite-sized pieces without getting overwhelmed.

Pokopia is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. It was released on March 5, 2026. You can buy a physical edition or digital edition. As of the time of writing this, there is no limited or special editions of Pokopia available.
