Bad news for Life By You followers and The Sims super-fans: Mere weeks before the Early Access launch, Paradox Interactive has announced that the game will be delayed yet again. This time indefinitely.
What is Life By You?
Life by You is a sandbox RPG developed by Paradox Interactive and set in an open-world environment with detailed customization options for characters, homes, and stories. It features real-language conversations and allows players to interact with every aspect of their characters’ lives. The game emphasizes player creativity with extensive modding capabilities and Creator Tools for designing and sharing content. It promises no loading screens and a seamless gaming experience.
I’m admittedly a very casual Sims player but Life By You piqued my interest, particularly thanks to the focus on Creator Tools. As most Simmers know, the best part of the game is custom content made by other creators! This lets you tap into hairstyles, home decor, and added functionality that the base game doesn’t offer. Life By You seems determined to build custom content right into the game, empowering modders and creators to run wild for the benefit of us all! Because of this added flexibility, Life by You is seen as a major competitor and an alternative to The Sims.
Life By You Delayed Indefinitely
Unfortunately, Life by You has now been delayed indefinitely. This is the game’s third delay, originally scheduled for September 2023, then pushed to March 2024, and later to June 2024. The developers decided to retract the Early Access release date to ensure better planning and development.
The news of Life By You being delayed indefinitely is a significant letdown for fans who have been eagerly awaiting its release. This life simulation game had generated considerable buzz with its promise of innovative gameplay and expansive world-building features. The delay feels like a major setback, especially for those who have been following its development closely and dreaming about the new adventures they would embark upon in its virtual world. The anticipation has been building, and to have that excitement put on hold is undeniably frustrating.
However, while this delay is disappointing, it’s important to recognize that it might ultimately be for the best. Rushed game releases often result in products plagued by bugs, incomplete features, and an overall lackluster experience that can tarnish a game’s reputation permanently. By taking the necessary time to address any issues and refine the gameplay, the developers can ensure that Life By You launches in a more polished, fully-realized state.
In the grand scheme of things, a delayed game that arrives complete and polished can foster a more loyal and satisfied player base than one released prematurely. The extra development time could allow the team to implement new features, improve the game’s performance, and ensure that the initial player experience is as seamless and enjoyable as possible. So, while the indefinite delay is a tough pill to swallow right now, it’s a decision that holds the promise of a more rewarding and immersive gaming experience down the line.
Is Life By You Cancelled?
While Life By You hasn’t been outright cancelled, the indefinite delay raises a worrying specter of the potential that it slips into development limbo, a fate not unheard of in the cozy gaming world.
In the Valley of Gods, an intriguing archaeological adventure from the creators of Firewatch, has left players waiting for years beyond their initial release date and is now marked with an ominous “December 2029″—which feels placerholder-y as heck.
Perhaps even more disappointing is a game like Little Witch in the Woods, which released in PAID Early Access in 2022 and remains unfinished with no “complete edition” in sight. Because of this, most users are suggesting not to buy it at this time, with some even wondering if it will ever be completed by MIA developer Sunny Side Up. A similar thing happened with Witchbrook (from publisher/developer Chucklefish), with similar disgruntled user feedback—and rightfully so.
However, a game like Ooblets—a whimsical blend of farming, puzzles, and creature collection—seems to be the complete foil of those games. After a long drawn out development schedule, the game did released…with positive reviews from players and journalists alike! So there is always hope.

To be honest, I don’t have time for Life By You to come out right now anyway! I’ve got a backlog that goes on forever, I’m neck deep in my Rune Factory 5 review, I dropped everything to play Pine Hearts, and I’m on my fifth Baulder’s Gate 3 file. So many this delay is for the best for my sanity.
