I loved My Time at Sandrock. So much so that I am confident in saying that it would be my “Cozy Game of the Year for 2023,” if I had picked one (I didn’t because I only launched my blog Oct 2023). I remember playing Pathea Games’ previous title, My Time at Portia, and wishing immediately that I had bought it for PC rather than Switch.

The My Time games are a perfect handheld experience (cozy, sometimes mindless, easy to play on-the-go) but players everywhere criticized the Nintendo Switch version of Portia for being buggy and missing a lot of content compared to its Steam counterpart. “How bad could it really be?” I thought. Unfortunately, it was pretty bad. Which is exactly why I wanted to buy My Time at Sandrock for Switch last year.

This time around, I was reviewing the game for Cozy Game Reviews and I wanted to check out the Switch experience so that players didn’t waste their money if it had many of the same issues as its predecessor. I knew I could evaluate the story, characters, and mechanics no matter which version I played—but I was determined to take the bullet for my readers if they were as tantalized by the Nintendo Switch versions of games as I am. I wanted to be able to include Switch performance in my review of the game.

And I’m sure glad I did! I can’t recommend My Time at Sandrock enough but the Nintendo Switch version just wasn’t there yet. Tons of lag and bugs, not to speak of the missing content compared to P). My review concluded with: play the game…but not on Switch. In the era of the Steam Deck, handheld gamers needn’t be tethered to an outdated system.

But things are looking up for those who aren’t ready for a $500 handheld upgrade (mood, girl). The Nintendo Switch version of My Time at Sandrock has an update! The announcement video compares performance and graphics side-by-side and it is looking SO much better. Pathea Games made tons of improvements and I even intend to get back into the game when I have some free time and maybe even update my review based on what I find!

Curious about the My Time at Sandrock 2024 Switch update? Here’s everything we know:

What’s Included in the My Time at Sandrock Switch Update?

My Time at Sandrock update (V 1.1.4) is now available to download on Nintendo Switch as of January 22, 2024! This added all content available in the PC full release (Steam) as well as all PC hotfixes up to Dec. 10th/2023.

Per the official My Time at Sandrock YouTube channel, players can now expect the following benefits on the Nintendo Switch version:

  • Optimizing resource loading for better frame rates
  • Added the ability to create multiple save files per game
  • Added additional background textures
  • Space-use tracking for your yard and house
  • Fixed certain asset “pop-in” issues
  • New quests for romanceable and non-romanceable NPCs
  • Greenhouse and Factory buildings added
  • Added a Northern Starship Hazardous Ruins
  • You can now have children with your spouse
  • Alternative clothing for NPCs

You can check out exactly what is included by scrolling through the Hotfix notifications on their Steam page (remember: nothing after Dec 10th is included on Switch yet).

What do you think about the My Time at Sandrock updates? Have you already bought the game elsewhere? Did this fix make you finally pull the trigger on the Switch version? I’d love to hear from you in the comments!

Stay cozy, gamers!
