inZOI is coming for The Sims’ crown—and honestly, it’s looking pretty good while doing it. Developed by inZOI Studio and published by Krafton, this ambitious life sim launches in early access on March 28, 2025.
Hyungjun “Kjun” Kim, the game’s director, is refreshingly honest about how challenging this kind of project is. “Reckless” is the word he used to describe taking on a genre as massive as life simulation. But Kjun seems committed to delivering. inZOI already has a full roadmap lined up through 2025 with some seriously intriguing updates.

Wait, what is inZOI?
inZOI is an upcoming life simulation game where you control the lives of characters called Zois, shaping their relationships, careers, and day-to-day experiences. Developed by inZOI Studio and published by Krafton, it features deep customization options for characters, homes, and even the surrounding city, all powered by Unreal Engine 5 for realistic graphics.
You can Wishlist inZOI on Steam.
inZOI Price Reveal
inZOI will launch in early access on March 28, 2025, for $40 (per PC Gamer), which is roughly the price of a Sims 4 expansion pack. All updates and DLC will be free until the game’s full release. This approach gives players access to ongoing content without additional costs while the game is being refined.

What’s to Love About inZOI So Far?
inZOI promises to go above and beyond what we think of as “life sims.” Here’s what’s getting me excited about the game so far:
💰Reasonably Priced
- Early access inZOI price is $40, roughly the cost of a single The Sims expansion pack.
- Includes a full base game with detailed AI, deep customization, and three large open-world environments.
- Future DLC updates (including new outfits and furniture every three months) are confirmed to be free.
- Offers significantly more upfront content and value compared to the piecemeal pricing of The Sims.
🎯 Hyper-Realistic Simulation
- The game’s graphics are powered by Unreal Engine 5, delivering detailed facial animations, realistic lighting, and lifelike weather effects.
- Clothing and hair physics are finely tuned, giving characters a natural and fluid look as they move.
🏙️ Many Open-World Environments
- Three distinct cities inspired by real-world locations:
- Dowon – A dense, modern city inspired by Seoul.
- Bliss Bay – A laid-back, coastal city reminiscent of Los Angeles.
- Cahaya – A tropical paradise influenced by Indonesian resorts.
- Each environment has unique social opportunities, weather patterns, and regional events.
🏠 “City Edit” Mode
- Beyond home-building, players can edit entire cityscapes.
- Rearrange public spaces, change building facades, and design your neighborhood’s layout.
🧠 AI-Driven Zoi Behavior
- Zois have complex emotional states and autonomous decision-making.
- They can form meaningful relationships, pursue personal goals, and react realistically to changes in their environment.
👗 Deep Customization
- Highly detailed character creation with granular control over facial structure, body type, skin texture, and more.
- You can create or upload custom textures for clothing and hairstyles.
- The clothing system includes layering, allowing realistic outfit combinations.
🎨 Modding and User-Generated Content (UGC) Support
- The “Canvas” tool allows players to create and share content directly in-game.
- Players can import custom assets, from outfits to furniture to full environment overhauls.
🌧️ Dynamic Weather and Seasonals
- Realistic weather systems that affect character mood and daily activities.
- Seasonal events and changes in daylight and temperature create an evolving world.
❤️ Relationship Depth and Complexity
- Relationships have realistic arcs, including conflicts, reconciliations, and betrayals.
- Friendships, romantic bonds, and rivalries influence career and social progression.
🏆 Event-Based Gameplay and Citywide Impact
- Special events like music festivals, cultural holidays, and sporting events influence the city and Zois’ behavior.
- Player choices during events can shift the overall vibe and social structure of the city.
inZOI 2025 Roadmap: What’s Coming?
Here’s the plan, according to the inZOI devleopers:
- May Update – Kicking off with a mod kit for Maya and Blender (modders, rise up!), improved weight and muscle adjustments from exercise, relationship improvements, and an adoption system. Plus, new furniture and better build mode tools.
- August Update – Ghosts! Swimming and pools! A “cat-themed city” (to celebrate International Cat Day, naturally). Plus, more freelancer jobs, AI-powered build mode improvements, and better parenting mechanics.
- October Update – More family time, hotkey customization, and better object resizing in build mode. You’ll also be able to move homes more smoothly and expect more modding support.
- December Update – A memory system (yes, your Zois will actually remember things), the ability to move cities, new interaction options based on traits, and indoor temperature settings for that extra cozy vibe.
If that’s not enough, inZOI will be dropping new outfits and furniture every three months. That’s more regular content than some AAA live-service games. And the best part? Kjun says the team will listen to player feedback and adjust accordingly, so if the community loves (or hates) something, expect the devs to respond.
Big Dreams, Bigger Tools
Customization is at the heart of inZOI. You’ll be able to create and tweak everything, from your Zoi’s appearance and wardrobe to their house and even the roads around it. The game uses Unreal Engine 5, so the visuals look sharp. AI-generated content will also let you create unique textures, furniture, and even animations from text and images. Imagine designing a custom rug by typing “floral goth” and watching it appear, that’s the level of flexibility we’re talking about.
The catch? inZOI developers have been very open about the fact that they are leveraging generative AI to make game content. Using AI, they are able to make things more customizable than ever. But this will be controversial, I imagine.
Reckless? Maybe. Promising? Definitely.
inZOI is aiming to fill the Sims-shaped hole in a lot of players’ hearts, but with deeper mechanics, more customization, and a consistent update schedule, it might just surpass its inspiration. The early access gamble is real, but if the team sticks to this roadmap, inZOI could be the next big thing in life sims.
Personally, I’m ready for our new Life Sim Overlords!

Game On!
I am what you would call a “novice” The Sims enjoyer, so being able to be part of a new life sim launch is super exciting for me. Maybe this one will hook me in a way that other games never have. Either way, I know that I’m looking forward to the aesthetics of inZOI, if nothing else!
Stay cozy, gamers!
